Motorists in Amarillo should prepare for temporary lane closures on Osage Street starting Monday, April 14, as the City of Amarillo launches a preliminary reconstruction study between 34th Avenue and 58th Avenue.
The closures are part of a geotechnical data collection effort that will help inform the future redesign and full reconstruction of this stretch of road. A consultant working with the city will be conducting tests and surveys to evaluate the condition of the roadway and subsurface, which are crucial for planning the next steps of the project.
During this study phase, both northbound and southbound travelers on Osage Street will experience periodic lane closures. The location and length of the closed lanes may shift as the study progresses, depending on the needs of the data collection teams and ongoing weather conditions.
City officials anticipate that traffic disruptions will continue through the end of April. Drivers are encouraged to remain cautious, stay alert to changing traffic patterns, and consider using alternative routes when possible to avoid delays.
"We understand that road work and closures can be inconvenient, and we truly appreciate the community's patience and cooperation as we work to improve our city’s infrastructure," the City of Amarillo stated in a release.
Businesses and residents in the area may also notice increased activity along the roadway, but the work is not expected to block access to driveways or side streets.
