Interview with Amarillo City Council candidate Nune Perez

Amarillo Nune Perez has officially announced his candidacy for Place 3 on the Amarillo City Council. Perez emphasized his dedication to community service, faith, and transparent governance as key pillars of his campaign.

"With careful consideration and prayer, I am pleased to formally announce my candidacy," said Perez. "Service to our community begins at home, and as a proud resident of Amarillo, I feel deeply blessed to have a loving family. I am committed to working diligently to ensure that the voices of our community are consistently heard and taken into account."

Perez brings a diverse background in public service, including experience in military law enforcement, firefighting, and veteran advocacy. His campaign is rooted in what he calls the "Panhandle Spirit" — a mindset of unity, accountability, and shared responsibility — and he aims to apply this spirit to address the city’s challenges head-on.

A Platform Built on Core Values

Perez outlines three core values guiding his campaign: Genuineness, Transparency, and Community. These principles, he says, will be central to how he approaches problem-solving and decision-making if elected.

His campaign platform includes a detailed, common-sense plan for addressing both immediate and long-term community needs:

Assessing Needs Realistically – Perez emphasizes the importance of identifying both immediate and planned needs across Amarillo’s diverse neighborhoods.

Setting Clear, Achievable Goals – He pledges to provide straightforward, measurable goals for city initiatives, with regular updates to keep the public informed.

Improved Communication – A strong advocate for proactive communication, Perez promises timely updates to citizens during both planned events and unexpected situations.

Open Government – "Silence on a question should never be acceptable in Open Forum Council Meetings," Perez said, stressing the importance of responsive and accountable leadership.

Addressing Root Causes, Not Symptoms – Rather than relying on temporary solutions, Perez calls for thorough root cause analysis to better direct city services and policy.

Eliminating Recurring Issues – He vows to end the cycle of “band-aid fixes” that reappear every election season, pushing instead for long-term strategies with lasting impact.

Supporting Clean, Business-Friendly Neighborhoods – Perez believes that a clean and welcoming city environment is key to attracting outside investment while supporting local businesses.

Deep Community Roots

Perez says his campaign isn’t just about holding office — it’s about elevating the voices of everyday citizens.

"This is our city, and every voice matters," Perez said. "I’m not running to be a politician. I’m running to be a servant of the people, someone who listens, responds, and works side by side with neighbors to make Amarillo the best it can be."
