Former Amarillo-area teacher faces new charge of indecency with a child

A former Amarillo ISD and Canyon ISD teacher, already facing multiple allegations of indecency with a child, has been arrested again — this time on a new charge connected to an incident that allegedly occurred more than two decades ago.

Patrick Kenneth Farmer, 57, was arrested Wednesday and charged with one count of Indecency with a Child by Sexual Contact. According to court records, the charge stems from an alleged incident in December 2000, in which Farmer is accused of touching the genitals of a girl under the age of 17.

This latest arrest marks the sixth time Farmer has been taken into custody for similar accusations. He was previously arrested in September 2024 on an indecency with a child charge, a case that remains pending. Just two months later, in November 2024, a Potter County grand jury indicted him on two additional counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact.

Farmer's legal troubles go back nearly two decades. He was arrested four times in Randall County on similar charges related to incidents that reportedly occurred between December 2000 and June 2005. In 2006, he pleaded guilty to four counts of indecency with a child and was sentenced to six years of probation.

Despite his past conviction, Farmer continued to be a subject of legal scrutiny. A 2009 civil lawsuit brought against Paramount Baptist Church, where Farmer worked in childcare from 1995 to 2004, alleged that complaints about his inappropriate behavior around children were ignored. The lawsuit, which was later settled, claimed that church officials failed to act on warnings, including a letter from a former employee explicitly stating that Farmer should not be allowed to work with children.

Farmer’s background in education is also under renewed examination. Canyon ISD confirmed that he taught at Lakeview Elementary from 2000 to 2001. Amarillo ISD stated that he briefly worked as a substitute teacher but resigned in August 1993. His teaching certificate was revoked by the state in 2007, following his criminal convictions.

As new charges are added to a growing list of legal battles, questions remain about how Farmer was able to remain in positions of trust around children for years after initial concerns were raised. Authorities have not disclosed whether additional victims have come forward, but investigations remain ongoing.
