Interview with Amarillo City Council Place 4 candidate Leif Kertis

Leif Kertis, an entrepreneur and dedicated community leader, has built a career that blends business success with a strong commitment to service. As the owner of multiple businesses, including Floor Coverings International, Kertis brings a wealth of experience in corporate finance, business development, and strategic growth. His leadership in managing large-scale budgets demonstrates a keen ability to navigate complex financial landscapes while fostering economic development.

Kertis' professional journey is backed by his academic background. He holds a B.S. in Criminal Justice-Administration, an MBA in General Business, and an M.S. in Finance and Economics from West Texas A&M University. Continuing his dedication to lifelong learning, he is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Christian Studies from Denver Seminary.

Beyond business, Kertis is deeply involved in the community, particularly through his work with First Baptist Church. His volunteer efforts include teaching financial literacy and life skills to individuals preparing for reentry into society after incarceration. His work with various nonprofit organizations reflects his broader mission of strengthening the Amarillo community.

At the heart of his efforts is a strong foundation of faith. Inspired by Colossians 3:17, Kertis integrates his Christian values into both his professional and personal life. As a father, he instills these same principles of integrity and perseverance in his daughter, Bailee—values passed down from his own parents, Michael and Eunice Kertis.

With a combination of financial expertise, leadership skills, and a deep sense of service, Kertis continues to contribute to both the business and faith communities in Amarillo. His dedication to creating positive change highlights his commitment to helping others and fostering growth in both individuals and the city he calls home.
