Deadly shooting in Borger under investigation

A deadly shooting in Borger late Sunday night has left one person dead and another hospitalized, prompting an ongoing investigation by local authorities.

According to the Borger Police Department, officers were dispatched around 9:52 p.m. on March 16 to the 500 block of North Florida Street after reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers searched the area and discovered a shooting victim nearby in the 600 block of Mississippi Street. Emergency responders provided immediate medical aid before transporting the victim to Golden Plains Community Hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.

While investigating the scene, authorities were informed of a second shooting victim who had been transported by private vehicle to Golden Plains Community Hospital. This individual was later transferred to a hospital in Amarillo, where they remain in stable condition.

Preliminary findings indicate that the incident stemmed from an altercation between the two victims in a convenience store parking lot, which escalated into gunfire. Police have not identified any additional suspects at this time but are searching for a red Ford pickup with Texas license plate VPP4995, which may have been involved in the case.

Authorities urge anyone with information or those who may have witnessed the shooting but have not yet spoken to law enforcement to contact the Borger Police Department at (806) 273-0950 and ask to speak with a detective.

The Borger Police Department extended its gratitude to the Hutchinson County Sheriff's Office, Texas Highway Patrol, National Park Service Park Rangers, and the Borger Fire Department for their assistance in the investigation.

This remains an active case, and updates will be provided as more details emerge.
