Amarillo police investigating suspicious death following reported fight

The Amarillo Police Department (APD) is investigating a suspicious death following a reported fight at a residence on the city's north side.

According to APD, officers responded to a medical call around 2:30 p.m. on March 9 at a home in the 300 block of North Carolina Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered that an altercation had taken place between two individuals, resulting in the death of 43-year-old Michael Mayfield.

Following the discovery, the APD Homicide Unit was called in to investigate. Authorities have not yet released information regarding the second individual involved in the fight or any potential charges.

Officials confirmed that Mayfield’s next of kin have been notified, and the case remains under active investigation. Law enforcement has not disclosed whether any arrests have been made or if there is an ongoing threat to the public.
