Canyon Main Street and the City of Canyon are taking a significant step toward making Canyon Square more accessible to all members of the community. The two organizations have partnered to install three new ramps and railings in key locations around the square, ensuring that individuals with mobility challenges can navigate the area more easily.
The planned installations will be placed in front of Palace Coffee, Joe Taco, and Canyon News at the intersection of 15th Street and 5th Avenue. Canyon Main Street, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the community’s quality of life, will provide the railings, while the City of Canyon will handle the installation of the ramps.
“With this project, we’ve partnered with the City of Canyon to help us build our ramps,” said Audry Miller, program coordinator with Canyon Main Street. “They’re instrumental in this, and we are sponsoring the railing that’s going in front of Palace, but we couldn’t do this without the support. It is a community event, and hopefully, we’ll be able to add some more in the future.”
The ramps and railings are designed to assist individuals who use wheelchairs, crutches, and strollers, as well as anyone with additional accessibility needs. By making these improvements, Canyon Main Street and the City of Canyon are working toward a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all residents and visitors.
“It’s important because we want to make our town more inclusive for everybody,” Miller added. “We just want everyone to be able to come, enjoy, and be in a safe environment that’s accessible to all of our constituents.”
The project aligns with Canyon Main Street’s broader mission of improving the quality of life for the citizens of Canyon and benefiting the overall community. The organization relies on sponsorship funding to support these initiatives, and it hopes that additional projects will be funded in the future through similar means.
Weather permitting, the installation of the ramps and railings is expected to be completed within two to three weeks. Canyon Main Street has also expressed its commitment to continuing efforts to enhance accessibility throughout the city, ensuring that Canyon remains an inviting and inclusive place for everyone.
