WATCH: Amarillo City Council meeting for 2-11-2025

The Amarillo City Council is set to meet on Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall to discuss a range of local issues, including economic development, public safety, and infrastructure. Among the key agenda items are updates on the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation (AEDC), funding for Transformation Park, fire department equipment purchases, and the city’s potential participation in the Texas Enterprise Zone Program.

Public Participation and Meeting Details

Residents who wish to provide public comments can sign up online, call the City Secretary’s office at 806-378-3014, or register in person at least 15 minutes before the meeting begins.

Key Topics on the Agenda

AEDC Update Amid Leadership Changes

Council members will receive an update from the AEDC following the recent separation agreement with its former President and CEO, Kevin Carter. The discussion will also cover the approval of the AEDC’s updated bylaws and Certificate of Formation.

Transformation Park Security Funding

One of the consent items includes a proposed $250,000 payment to Transformation Park for security improvements. This funding would support security equipment, internet connectivity, and the hiring of security guards.

Transformation Park, which was announced in December 2022, is being developed as a comprehensive resource center for the homeless community. The facility is planned to feature a drop-in shelter, a day room, a cabin community with pallet homes, and a commercial kitchen. While construction is still ongoing, the park has already started serving meals to community members.

Fire Department and Park-Related Debt Issuances

Council members will also discuss potential debt issuances to fund fire department equipment and vehicle purchases, along with additional funding for parks projects and fleet vehicle acquisitions.

Texas Enterprise Zone Program Consideration

Another key discussion point is Amarillo’s possible participation in the Texas Enterprise Zone Program, which offers tax incentives to businesses. The council will hold a first hearing on nominating Ben E. Keith Company as an enterprise project.

Additional Agenda Items

Other topics include:

Possible ordinances for rezoning in various areas of Amarillo.

Consideration of grant awards, purchases, and contract approvals.

Discussion on televising public meetings from the new City Hall.

Updates from the Sunset Committee, which reviews city operations and policies.

Tuesday’s meeting is expected to provide significant updates on Amarillo’s economic development efforts, public safety initiatives, and infrastructure planning. Residents are encouraged to attend or follow along online to stay informed about the city’s future plans.
