Update on Kids Inc. Rockrose Sports Park construction

The highly anticipated Kids Inc. Rockrose Sports Park is set to begin construction after revamping its construction team to include a local general contractor, architect, and engineer.

Kids Inc. President and CEO Jimmy Lackey says the project is progressing steadily, with a focus on ensuring all necessary groundwork is in place before breaking ground.

“We’re ready to get started, but we’re being patient and we know that there’s just other things that have to take place," Lackey said. "But everybody involved now is completely local, and that makes it a little easier for us to talk to our engineers, to our general contractor, and to our architect.”

The 90-acre complex, located just off I-27 and Hollywood Road, will be a massive outdoor sports hub featuring 60 acres of lighted turf. The facility is designed to accommodate over seven different sports, including:

Eight baseball and softball fields

31 soccer fields

While the land has been provided by Rockrose Development, Lackey emphasized that it currently lacks infrastructure, utilities, and roads, which adds to the complexity of the project.

“There’s no utilities, there’s no roads. There’s none of those things in place, so it just takes a little while to get it all in play,” he explained.

Despite the progress, Kids Inc. is still $5 million short of its $30 million goal to fully fund the project. However, with a dedicated team and strong local support, the organization remains optimistic about bringing this state-of-the-art sports complex to life.
