Joe Biden re-signs, not resigns—hope that’s what you meant

For years, some of you have been screaming, “Joe Biden, resign!” Well, it seems he misheard you. Instead of stepping down in disgrace, he just… signed another deal with Creative Artists Agency (CAA). That’s right—Biden is back with the same talent agency that repped him during his brief, lucrative stint as a private citizen from 2017 to 2020.

Back then, Biden cashed in with a bestselling memoir (Promise Me, Dad), a 42-city speaking tour, and various other engagements that padded his bank account nicely. Now, with his presidency ending not quite on his own terms, Biden is once again prepping for the next phase of his career: the post-presidential victory lap (or, at least, an attempt at one).

According to Axios, Biden is planning a memoir about his time in office, a book that will undoubtedly be marketed as his definitive account of his presidency—and, more importantly, his version of why he stepped aside. A lucrative book deal is inevitable, but let’s be honest: is there a massive public demand for a ghostwritten mix of excuses and “what could have been” theorizing? Given the state of things, it's hard to imagine readers clamoring for Biden’s take on the tumultuous (to put it politely) final weeks of his campaign.

Then there’s the matter of a potential book tour. CAA is likely hoping to replicate Biden’s 2017-2020 run, which reportedly sold 85,000 tickets nationwide. But let’s just take a step back and ask: Do we really think Biden has the stamina for another 42-city tour? The man struggled to get through a debate, and we’re supposed to believe he’s about to embark on a multi-month book-signing marathon? Even if there were an appetite for it (debatable), would Biden be physically up for it?

At this point, it’s fair to wonder how often we’ll see Biden live and in person moving forward. Sure, a few high-profile interviews and tightly controlled public appearances are a given. But a full-blown book tour? A major reinvention as a globetrotting statesman-for-hire? Color me skeptical.

Of course, CAA’s job is to sell Biden as a respected, sought-after voice in national and global affairs, and that’s exactly what they’re doing. Their statement calls him “one of America’s most respected and influential voices,” a phrase that, let’s be real, is doing a lot of heavy lifting these days.

So, for those who spent years yelling at Biden to resign, congratulations! He heard you… just a little differently than you intended.
