Local businessman and longtime community leader Jason Herrick has officially launched his campaign for Mayor of Amarillo in the upcoming May 3rd municipal elections. Speaking to a crowd of family, friends, and supporters at the Texas Tech Veterinary School—an institution he helped bring to Amarillo—Herrick emphasized his vision for the city’s future and his commitment to improving core city services.
“I’m running for mayor because I love this place and I love the people,” said Herrick. “I want to see it grow and flourish, but that all starts at the top, and we’ve simply got to do better. I’m tired of having a city government that fails to consistently provide quality core services like safe, well-maintained streets, coordinated snow removal, reliable water, and timely trash pickup—the things you pay for and should expect. Send me to city hall, and I will create a comprehensive infrastructure plan within my first 120 days in office to make the mayor’s office a place where core services are a priority once again.”
Herrick, the president of Pantera Energy Company, has deep roots in Amarillo’s business and civic community. With over two decades of leadership experience, he has played a key role in economic development and infrastructure projects throughout the region. His resume includes leadership roles with the Texas Energy Reliability Council, the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers, and multiple local non-profits and economic development organizations.
His campaign begins with considerable momentum, boasting more than 225 endorsements from local leaders and residents. Dr. Alan Keister, a respected physician in the area, praised Herrick’s leadership, stating, “Jason is the kind of servant leader you can depend on. He leads by example and through his actions. He is known and trusted in Amarillo and beyond for his leadership and integrity. I can’t think of a more capable person to be our next mayor.”
Herrick’s platform focuses on bolstering Amarillo’s economic future by attracting new manufacturing jobs, improving healthcare services, and ensuring that city government is responsive to its residents. He also expressed frustration with what he sees as inefficiencies in the current administration, pledging to bring accountability and problem-solving to city hall.
“For over two decades, I have invested my heart and soul into serving my neighbors and working to make Amarillo the absolute best city it can be,” Herrick said. “But lately, I have grown more and more frustrated at the failures and excuses from the mayor’s office. These are real challenges, and they are too big and too important for politics as usual. I want to do at city hall exactly what I’ve done in our community—solve problems and make government responsive and accountable to the people.”
A graduate of Texas A&M University with a degree in Industrial Engineering, Herrick is also deeply involved in his local church, Hillside Christian, where he serves as a Sunday School teacher. He and his wife, Dr. Shannon Herrick, Chairman of Pediatrics at Texas Tech Health Science Center in Amarillo, have three children.
