Local business leader and community advocate David Prescott has officially entered the race for Amarillo City Council, Place 3, bringing with him a platform focused on business-minded leadership, government transparency, and smart financial management.
Prescott, the founder of Talon/LPE, an environmental consulting and engineering firm, says his experience in managing budgets and resources makes him well-suited to help steer the city in a responsible direction.
"Amarillo is a city of hardworking people, strong businesses, and conservative values. It needs leadership that reflects that," Prescott said. "With a half-billion-dollar budget, City Hall should be run with the same efficiency and accountability as a well-managed business."
A Background in Leadership
A graduate of West Texas A&M University, Prescott holds multiple degrees, including a B.S. in Environmental Science and Biology, an M.B.A. in Business Leadership and Management, and a Master of Science in Environmental Science. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Agricultural Sciences.
His leadership extends beyond the private sector. In 2013, he was appointed to the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists by Governor Rick Perry and was later reappointed by Governor Greg Abbott in 2019. He currently serves as Board Chair.
Beyond his business and government experience, Prescott has been an active force in the Amarillo nonprofit community, contributing to organizations such as the Amarillo Area Foundation, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Boy Scouts of America.
Prioritizing Amarillo’s Future
Prescott’s campaign focuses on several key areas:
Strengthening Amarillo’s workforce
Supporting business growth and job creation
Improving infrastructure and addressing long-term city planning
Keeping taxes low and ensuring smart financial management
Enhancing communication and transparency in local government
Fully supporting public safety
"City Council might be a volunteer position, but it shouldn’t come with volunteer-level experience," said Prescott. "I love Amarillo. This city shaped me, gave me opportunities, and supported my success. Now, it’s my turn to step up."
Prescott emphasizes that Amarillo is facing critical challenges, from water issues to infrastructure failures, and believes the city needs leaders willing to take responsibility and find real solutions.
"These aren’t issues you can talk your way out of," he said. "We have to fix our infrastructure problems and make sure Amarillo’s economy and workforce stays strong for the next generation."
