The Amarillo Independent School District (AISD) will welcome Dr. Deidra Parish as its new superintendent on March 18. The district’s Board of Trustees officially approved her contract Friday afternoon during a special meeting.
Dr. Parish, a Lubbock native, currently serves as the superintendent of Sweetwater ISD and has previous experience leading Darrouzett ISD. Her appointment follows an extensive search process initiated after the announcement of current Superintendent Doug Loomis’ planned retirement in June 2025.
“We are excited to welcome Dr. Parish to the Amarillo ISD team,” said Doyle Corder, President of the Board of Trustees, during the initial announcement in early February. “We were blessed to have numerous high-quality candidates, and Dr. Parish rose to the top in the rounds of interviews. We look forward to having Dr. Parish join the team of eight and leading Amarillo ISD.”
In addition to approving Parish’s contract, the school board also approved a contract naming Doug Loomis as Superintendent Emeritus, effective March 18. Loomis, who has served as AISD’s superintendent since 2019, will remain in this role until his retirement next year, ensuring a smooth leadership transition.
High Plains Pundit has requested a copy of Dr. Parish’s contract and will provide further details once it is released.
With her experience in district leadership and her background in education, Dr. Parish is set to take the helm of AISD at a critical time, focusing on student success and district growth. The district community will be watching closely as she steps into this new role and begins shaping the future of Amarillo ISD.
