President-elect Donald Trump is gearing up to issue around 100 executive orders shortly after his January 20 inauguration, Republican senators and media reports indicate. The orders are expected to address key issues such as border security, U.S. energy policy, and immigration reform.
During a meeting with Senate Republicans on Wednesday, Trump reportedly outlined his intention to use executive authority to swiftly advance his agenda. Sen. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., shared on “Fox & Friends” that Trump spoke about nearly 100 potential executive orders.
“He threw that out — 100 — there could be like 100 EOs, yeah. I believe him,” said Sen. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D.
Republican lawmakers were briefed on some of the planned executive actions by Stephen Miller, a senior adviser in Trump’s incoming administration, according to Axios. Miller reportedly emphasized an immediate focus on immigration and border control policies starting from Trump's first day in office.
The Associated Press also reported that Trump discussed his executive order plans with GOP senators during the meeting. Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., confirmed a significant volume of orders was mentioned, stating, “There will be a substantial number.”
Pushing the Agenda Forward
The flood of executive orders would provide Trump with a powerful tool to push his policy goals without waiting for congressional action. Despite this unilateral approach, Republican congressional leaders, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., have pledged to collaborate with Trump to advance his legislative priorities.
Tensions Over Transition
The transition period has been marked by tensions between the incoming Trump administration and President Joe Biden’s outgoing team. Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to express his frustrations over what he described as obstacles created by the current administration.
“Biden is doing everything possible to make the TRANSITION as difficult as possible, from Lawfare such as has never been seen before, to costly and ridiculous Executive Orders on the Green New Scam and other money wasting Hoaxes," Trump posted. "Fear not, these 'Orders' will all be terminated shortly, and we will become a Nation of Common Sense and Strength. MAGA!!!”
