The Amarillo Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on the night of January 3, leaving one person dead and two others critically injured.
Around 9:37 p.m., officers responded to a major accident at the intersection of Soncy Road and Legend Avenue. Authorities report that 35-year-old Clebson Roberto Hillario Da Silva was pronounced dead at the scene. A 34-year-old woman and a 2-year-old child, both passengers in Da Silva’s Ford Escape, sustained life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
According to APD, 29-year-old Carlos Coronado was driving a Ram 2500 southbound on Soncy Road when he swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid rear-ending another vehicle. Coronado's truck collided with Da Silva’s Ford Escape, causing the fatal crash. Police determined that speed and alcohol or drugs were contributing factors in the incident.
Coronado was arrested at the scene and has been charged with Intoxication Manslaughter and two counts of Intoxication Assault. He is currently in custody at the Randall County Jail.
