Don Tipps announces re-election bid for Amarillo City Council

Councilman Don Tipps officially announced on Thursday that he will seek re-election for Place 2 on the Amarillo City Council. In a press release, Tipps highlighted his commitment to transparency, public safety, and fiscal responsibility as key pillars of his service to the community.

"As the incumbent with a deep commitment to transparency, public safety, and fiscal responsibility," the press release read, "Tipps is eager to continue serving the citizens of Amarillo."

Tipps is now the third current city council member to announce their re-election bid, joining Councilman Les Simpson, who made a similar announcement earlier. However, Councilman Josh Craft announced earlier this month that he would not seek re-election, leaving his seat open for a new candidate.

The city secretary will be accepting applications for a place on the ballot from January 15 to February 14. Those wishing to join Simpson and Tipps on the ballot will need to file during this time. The general election for all five Amarillo City Council seats is scheduled for May 3, with the elected officials serving two-year terms.

As the election season heats up, voters will have the opportunity to decide on their city’s leadership, including whether to retain the incumbents or elect new representatives.
