Amarillo College board approves contract for new president


Amarillo College’s Board of Regents has officially approved the contract for its new president, Dr. Jamelle J. Conner, marking a historic moment for the institution. Conner, who previously served as the vice president of student affairs at St. Petersburg College in Florida, will be the first female president in the college’s history.

The Board confirmed the decision at its regular meeting on Tuesday, finalizing a three-year contract with an annual salary of $280,000. Conner was selected as one of two finalists for the role and expressed her deep appreciation for the opportunity.

“I am so deeply honored to be selected as the next president of Amarillo College,” Conner said. “The passion and dedication of the faculty and staff, coupled with the warmth of the Amarillo community, have given me a true heart for this College and the community. I am excited to work alongside the Board of Regents, faculty, staff, students, and the entire community to build on our strengths, create our shared vision, and transform the lives of those we serve.”

With this appointment, Conner steps into a leadership role at a pivotal time for Amarillo College. The Board of Regents has expressed confidence in her ability to guide the institution forward and strengthen its commitment to student success.
