Amarillo residents with a passion for public service and an interest in shaping the future of their city will soon have the opportunity to run for a seat on the Amarillo City Council. The election process begins December 15, and all five council seats will be up for grabs in the general election on May 3, 2025.
Candidate Packets Available
Starting December 15, candidate packets will be accessible online on the City of Amarillo’s website. For those who prefer a physical copy, packets can be picked up beginning December 16 at the City Secretary’s Office, located in Room 303 of City Hall at 601 S. Buchanan Street.
These packets provide essential resources and forms to guide potential candidates through the election process, including key dates, eligibility requirements, and procedural instructions.
Key Election Dates
Candidate Filing Period: Applications for a place on the ballot will be accepted from January 15, 2025, to February 14, 2025.
Candidate Orientation & Ballot Placement Drawing: February 20, 2025.
Each of the five city council positions, including the mayor’s seat, serves a two-year term. Amarillo residents who meet eligibility criteria are encouraged to consider this opportunity to serve their community.
