State Rep.-elect Caroline Fairly files bill to restrict student device use in classrooms

State Representative-elect Caroline Fairly (R-Amarillo) has introduced her first bill ahead of the upcoming legislative session, targeting the use of personal wireless devices in Texas classrooms.

House Bill 1481 seeks to ban students from using cell phones, laptops, tablets, or any device capable of transmitting or receiving data during instructional time. The legislation would require school boards across the state to adopt policies enforcing this prohibition and mandate schools to provide secure, out-of-sight storage areas for these devices.

Fairly stated that the bill is aimed at minimizing distractions and fostering a more focused learning environment. The proposed measure has already sparked discussions about balancing technology use and classroom discipline as lawmakers gear up for the session.

The legislative session is set to begin in January, where HB 1481 will be up for consideration.
