Big changes are coming to improve safety along the southeast section of State Loop (SL) 335 in Amarillo. Starting Monday, January 6, construction crews will begin work on a $6.9 million project to add a continuous center left turn lane between Eastern Street and Farmers Avenue. This upgrade is designed to enhance driver safety and improve access to local streets and neighborhoods along the loop.
The project, set for completion by late summer 2025, aims to reduce risks associated with left turns by providing a designated lane for vehicles turning off SL 335. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) urges drivers to exercise caution and reduce speeds in the work zone, where lane closures will be in place during construction.
Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra time for their commutes, as temporary closures may impact traffic flow. The construction schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions, emergencies, and other unforeseen circumstances.
