Amarillo needs volunteers for annual PIT count

The City of Amarillo (COA) Community Development Department and Amarillo Continuum of Care are gearing up for the annual Point in Time (PIT) Count, a key initiative aimed at assisting the city’s homeless population. Scheduled for January 31, the 24-hour effort involves volunteers counting and surveying individuals and families experiencing homelessness throughout Amarillo.

“The PIT Count is vital in providing an accurate representation of not only the number of unhoused individuals and families in Amarillo, but also helps determine the needs and resources necessary to provide aid to our unhoused neighbors,” said Angela Snow, COA Grant Monitor for Community Development.

Volunteer Training Sessions

To ensure success, the effort relies on volunteers from local nonprofits and the community. Training sessions will be held at the Simms Building (808 S. Buchanan) on:

Wednesday, January 15: 1 p.m.–3 p.m.

Thursday, January 16: 10 a.m.–noon

Thursday, January 23: 10 a.m.–noon and 5:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m.

Volunteers can sign up online at amarillopard.typeform.com/to/c53FmeaQ.

The data collected helps local agencies address the needs of the homeless population and secure funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
