Amarillo Housing First has activated its Code Blue Warming Station for the first time this season to provide shelter for unsheltered individuals and their pets as freezing overnight temperatures hit the area. The station will remain open from Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. to Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 7:30 a.m. in downtown Amarillo.
Officials encourage community members to text 806-414-2243 if they spot anyone outside in the cold. Texts should include the individual's location and description to help volunteer mobile teams offer transportation to the station or other emergency shelters.
The city of Amarillo is providing free transit to shelters, including Faith City Mission, The Salvation Army of Amarillo, Guyon Saunders Resource Center, and the Code Blue Warming Station.
