Amarillo Buc-ee's opens Monday

Buc-ee’s, the beloved Texas-based travel center chain, is bringing its trademark charm and colossal convenience westward. The company will open its newest location in Amarillo next week, marking the first Buc-ee’s west of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and Interstate 35 corridor in Texas. Originally slated for completion in February 2025, the Amarillo store is debuting nearly two months ahead of schedule.

Grand Opening Details

Date: Monday, Dec. 16

Time: Doors open at 6 a.m., with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m.

Location: 9900 East Interstate 40 Highway

Amarillo Welcomes Buc-ee’s

The Amarillo site represents a significant westward expansion for the Texas icon, known for its sprawling layout and fan-favorite offerings, such as mouthwatering brisket sandwiches, fresh-baked kolaches, and the irresistible Beaver Nuggets. Conveniently situated off I-40, this newest addition caters to road-trippers exploring one of the nation's most storied highways.

The store’s location makes it an ideal pit stop for travelers headed to legendary landmarks, including Route 66, the Big Texan Steak Ranch, and Cadillac Ranch.

Years in the Making

Amarillo’s Buc-ee’s journey began in February 2022, when the city approved economic incentives to support the project. After land disputes delayed progress, construction finally broke ground in October 2023. The massive 27.73-acre site will house the 63rd Buc-ee’s location nationwide and the 36th in Texas.

This westward push comes as Buc-ee’s continues to expand its footprint outside of Central and East Texas. The only Buc-ee’s location farther west is in Johnstown, Colorado.

Travelers, Take Note

With its grand opening expected to draw large crowds, the Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport has provided alternative routes for travelers to avoid congestion:

Take SE 3rd Ave. and use the overpass ramp to access Airport Blvd.

Exit SE 3rd Ave. from Lakeside Dr., drive east on 3rd, and use the overpass ramp to Airport Blvd.

Exit Pullman off I-40, drive north on Pullman, and continue to Airport Blvd.

Buc-ee’s Legacy

Famous for redefining gas station convenience, Buc-ee’s has earned accolades for its exceptional food and customer experience. Eater recently named Buc-ee’s the best gas station food in Texas and among the best in the nation. Earlier this year, Buc-ee’s raised the bar by opening the world’s largest travel center at its Luling location, spanning a staggering 75,000 square feet.

As Amarillo’s Buc-ee’s opens its doors, it’s clear this Texas-born brand isn’t just about convenience — it’s about creating an iconic travel experience.
