President-elect Donald Trump announced Friday that Dr. Janette Nesheiwat, a Fox News medical contributor and seasoned medical professional, will be his nominee for Surgeon General as he prepares for his second term in office.
“I am proud to announce that Dr. Janette Nesheiwat will be the Nation’s Doctor as the United States Surgeon General. Dr. Nesheiwat is a double board-certified Medical Doctor with an unwavering commitment to saving and treating thousands of American lives,” Trump said in a press release.
Nesheiwat currently serves as a medical director at CityMD, a prominent network of urgent care centers in New York and New Jersey, according to her Fox News contributor biography. Her website highlights her double board certifications and her education from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
In addition to her work domestically, Nesheiwat has led medical relief missions in Haiti, Ukraine, and parts of Africa, emphasizing her dedication to global health initiatives. Trump praised her record of service and stated, “Dr. Nesheiwat will play a pivotal role in MAKING AMERICA HEALTHY AGAIN!”
The nomination signals Trump’s focus on healthcare as a priority for his administration. Nesheiwat will require Senate confirmation to officially step into the role of Surgeon General, a position that traditionally advises the government and the public on health matters.
Dr. Nesheiwat’s nomination is expected to generate discussion in Congress given her media presence and involvement in urgent care during the COVID-19 pandemic. Trump’s announcement emphasizes her qualifications and mission-oriented background as critical assets to his healthcare strategy moving forward.
