The Randall Raiders boys basketball team is honoring the legacy of the late Leslie Broadhurst during the 2024-2025 season by wearing commemorative patches on their jerseys. The patches, featuring the initials "LB," are a tribute to Coach Broadhurst, who passed away on October 28, 2023, after a battle with brain cancer.
Two weeks after his death, the team took to social media to share images of the patches on what would have been Broadhurst’s 67th birthday. In a heartfelt post, the Raiders wrote, "Happy Birthday Coach Broadhurst! These patches are just a small token to show the impact that you still have on this program."
This season marks the first time in Randall High School history that Broadhurst will not serve as the head coach of the boys basketball team. After Broadhurst’s passing, longtime assistant coach Trevor Johnson, who had stepped in midway through last season, has taken over as the team's head coach.
Broadhurst, who served as Randall’s head coach for over two decades, was known for his leadership, dedication, and deep connection with his players. His passing has left a lasting impact on the Randall community, and the commemorative patches are a way for the team to continue to honor his memory and influence on the program.
Trevor Johnson, now at the helm as head coach, spoke about the tribute, saying, “Leslie’s legacy lives on in everything we do here at Randall. These patches are a small way to recognize the enormous impact he had on the players, the program, and the school. We will always carry his memory with us.”
