Donald Trump nominates former NFL player Scott Turner as HUD Secretary

President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Scott Turner, a former NFL player and Texas House representative, to serve as the next Secretary of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The announcement came in a press release on Friday, signaling Trump’s ongoing commitment to appointing individuals with diverse experiences to his administration.

“I am pleased to nominate Scott Turner, from the Great State of Texas, as the Secretary of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD),” Trump stated.

Turner, 51, represented Texas’s 33rd district in the House of Representatives from 2013 to 2017. Beyond his political career, he has made significant contributions to community development and education reform. He currently serves as chair of the Center for Education Opportunity at the America First Policy Institute, a think tank aligned with Trump’s policy vision.

During Trump’s first term, Turner led the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council as its executive director. The council focused on uplifting distressed communities across the nation through targeted economic and social programs. Turner is also the founder and CEO of the Community Engagement & Opportunity Council (CEOC), which promotes mentorship, economic development, and sports as tools for empowerment in underserved areas.

Turner’s nomination reflects Trump’s broader strategy of leveraging unconventional resumes for key roles. His professional football background — playing as a cornerback for the Washington Redskins, San Diego Chargers, and Denver Broncos — adds a unique dimension to his leadership style.

“Scott will work alongside me to Make America Great Again for EVERY American,” Trump said, offering congratulations to Turner, his wife, Robin, and their son, Solomon.

As HUD Secretary, Turner is expected to focus on programs aimed at community revitalization, affordable housing, and economic opportunities for underserved populations. His nomination will require Senate confirmation before he officially assumes the role.
