Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) holds a 3-point lead over his challenger, Rep. Colin Allred (D-Texas), according to a new poll.
The Florida Atlantic University survey, conducted by Mainstreet Research, shows that among registered voters in the Texas, Cruz garners 46 percent support compared to Allred’s 43 percent. About 11 percent of respondents said they were undecided.
When asked which candidate respondents would vote for if the election were held today, the incumbent maintained his 3-point lead over Allred, 47 percent to 44 percent, the data shows. The number of undecided voters dipped, however, to 9 percent.
The numbers were released after Allred’s team announced Tuesday that he has raised more than $30 million over the past three months in his battle against Cruz, reflecting broad desire among Democratic donors to defeat one of the Senate’s most prominent conservatives. The Texas Republican raked in $21 million in the same period, according to his campaign.
It also comes less than a week before the two take to the debate stage.
