A coach at Accelerate Christian School in Amarillo, Kegan Matthew Abram, was arrested Monday on two counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact and an improper educator/student relationship.
Abram's bond is set at $100,000, and he is no longer employed by the school. The school has removed the entire "meet the staff" page from its website.
"Kegan Abram is no longer employed with our organization and we have no further comment at this time," Accelerate Christian School said in a statement.
According the criminal complaint, Abram forced a minor under the age of 17 to touch his genitals on October 11, 2023.
Abram is also accused of a similar incident occurring on November 15, 2023. The victim in this case was under the age of 17.
Update 10-22-24, Abram was released on $100,000 bond.
According to the bond conditions:
Abram is not allowed within 1,000 feet of Accelerate Christian School.He is also prohibited from being within 500 feet of all primary and secondary schools, as well as daycares.Can't have direct or indirect contact with the victims or anyone under the age of 17Must not go within 200 feet of the victims' homes, workspaces, or schoolsMust not menace, intimidate, or otherwise harass the victimsMust not possess a firearmMust abstain from the use or possession of any illegal dangerous drug, narcotic, marijuana, or alcohol, unless under the direction of a physicianMust not engage in sexual contact with anyone under the age of 17
Update 10-23-2024, Accelerate Church released the following statement:
We are aware of the arrest of one of our former school staff members.Accelerate Church takes seriously our responsibility to ensure the safety of our students, congregation, and staff and we are committed to taking any necessary steps to protect each of them.We have high standards for holy living. Integrity is of utmost importance, and if there is any compromise of those standards, we seek quick and serious rectification.Based upon what we know of the allegations, we want to make it known that all employees of our organization who work with children pass a state background check yearly. This was true of the accused.Once the allegations in question first came to light, the accused was instantly removed from all positions and we followed every protocol and request from the judicial system. The accused no longer works for our organization.We are praying for everyone affected and we hope that no one will give place to the Enemy of our souls during this process. Please pray that the will of the Lord will be accomplished at Accelerate Church.
