Juveniles arrested for recent drive by shootings

Amarillo Police Officers from the Proactive Criminal Enforcement Unit (PACE), Neighborhood Police Officer Unit (NPO) and other divisions within the Amarillo Police Department directed an investigation into three recent drive by shootings.

From knowledge obtained by school resource officers, a hangout location in the 300 block of N. Lincoln and vehicle of local gang members were identified. PACE officers spotted the vehicle and made a traffic stop in the 1000 block of Western Plaza Dr.

During the stop, officers observed shell casings from multiple guns in the vehicle. APD and DPS continued surveillance at the hangout location. Officers contacted several juvenile males at that location including one 17-year-old who was stopped on foot with a backpack containing multiple guns, meth and THC cartridges.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for the hangout. During the search of the home, officers seized an AR-15, a .380 pistol, 15 pounds of methamphetamine, THC wax and drug paraphernalia. A stolen silver Dodge Charger was also recovered in the driveway. More shell casings were found in the driveway.

Officers found criminal evidence leading to nearby home. A search warrant was drafted for the second home. Officers seized Marijuana and drug scales from that location. Three juvenile males, ages 15, 16 and 16 were all booked into the Youth Center of the High Plains for Agg Assault w/Deadly Weapon. Luis Ramirez, age 17, was booked into Potter County Jail for Agg Assault w/Deadly Weapon.

The investigation is ongoing.
