More nuggets continued to drop this weekend from President Joe Biden's rare interview with Robert Costa on the CBS News "Sunday Morning" show. To his credit, Costa finally got around to asking Biden about the role played by Nancy Pelosi and other top Democrats in shoving him out the door. Biden appeared to continue to insist that it was all his idea in the end, but he did let Pelosi's name slip out at one point. Biden appeared to try to claim that he felt all of the chatter from his fellow Democrats about his sinking poll numbers would have been a "distraction" from his campaign. He also came close to acknowledging that he would have been a drag on all of the down-ballot races and could have cost them the majority in both chambers of Congress. In some ways, this was possibly the most honest conversation we've seen from Biden throughout his entire time in office.
From the NY Post:
President Biden all but admitted he was pushed out of the presidential race by Democratic Party elites and specifically name-dropped former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in his first TV interview since the tectonic news last month.Biden said that Dems in the House and Senate were worried that he’d drag down their chances of being reelected. He said he believed his reelection bid would face too many distractions if he carried on.“A number of my Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate thought that I was going to hurt them in the races. And I was concerned if I stayed in the race, that would be the topic — you’d be interviewing me about why did Nancy Pelosi say [something] … and I thought it’d be a real distraction,” he told “CBS News Sunday Morning.”
The two names that never came up during the interview were Barack and Michelle Obama. It would have been nice if Bob Costa could have gone the extra mile and dug into that portion of the behind-the-scenes story. It's obvious that Pelosi and Schumer would have been involved because the rest of the congressional Dems would have been taking their cues from those two. But most of us have suspected for quite some time that Barack Obama has been pulling the strings from behind the curtain ever since he left office. He was the one who resurrected Joe Biden's career by elevating him to the Vice Presidency despite having told people to never underestimate Joe's ability to f*** anything up.
Supporting Biden's bid for the White House in 2020 was also probably a no-brainer for the Obamas. Biden would be an easily controlled puppet for the people behind the scenes (mostly Obama's people) who were actually controlling the levers of power. Supporting any of the younger, potentially more independent Democrats would have been risky because they might start getting ideas of their own and actually trying to run the show. All Biden would need to do would be to wear the trappings of the presidency and make the occasional public appearance to keep up the ruse. Yet his cognitive decline accelerated so rapidly that he couldn't even manage that much so he had to go.
None of this is meant to imply that Pelosi wasn't directly involved. She obviously was, as was Chuck Schumer. It took a while for them to convince the first Democrats holding relatively safe, solid blue seats to come out and call for Biden to step aside "for the good of the country," but once they did, the floodgates were open. Of course, what they really meant was that Joe needed to go "for the good of the party" and in the interest of maintaining their iron grip on power in the swamp. The tragedy in all of this is that their plan could still potentially work. It's very difficult for me to imagine anyone voting for the people responsible for the policies of the last four years that have wreaked so much damage on the country, but the brainwashing campaign that's currently underway in the legacy media remains a powerful tool. Republicans simply cannot afford to take anything for granted at this point.
