Beginning Monday, July 15, crews will close the US 87 to I-27 bridge, north of Canyon, for concrete barrier installation as part of the I-27 widening project. This work will take place overnight, from 7 p.m. on Monday the 15th to 6 a.m. Tuesday, July 16. Drivers traveling northbound to I-27 should follow the suggested detour with details in the attached pictures.
Once this work is complete, crews will continue installing temporary concrete barriers throughout the project’s limits from the US 60 split just north of Canyon to south State Loop (SL) 335 in Amarillo. The installations are expected to be completed in early August and will ensure the safety of construction workers as the widening phase of the project begins.
The project is designed to increase safety and mobility on I-27 by widening it from four to six lanes. The work is expected to be completed in December 2028.
